Sustainability & Conservation

At Divi Resorts, we believe paradise is worth protecting. From reducing waste and conserving energy on land, to preserving coral reefs and marine life beneath the waves, our resorts are dedicated to eco-friendly practices that keep our islands vibrant and healthy. Here’s a look at how we’re working together – above ground, along the beach, and under the sea – to make every stay more sustainable!

On Land: Reducing Waste and Conserving Energy

At our Aruba resorts, leftover food scraps don’t go to waste — they’re collected and donated to local farmers, who turn them into feed for pigs and other livestock.

Did You Know? The new Aruba $20 sustainability fee contributes to modernizing wastewater and sanitation infrastructure, ensuring cleaner water and a healthier island environment.

We recycle used cooking oil in Aruba and St. Maarten, which is converted into renewable products instead of going to the landfill.

On Aruba and St. Maarten, solar panels and solar water heaters are helping us power our resorts more sustainably — one rooftop at a time.

Did You Know? Aruba’s tap water, distilled from seawater and mineralized to meet top WHO standards, is not only delicious — it’s also eco-friendly. Refill your reusable bottle and help cut down on plastic!

We’ve eliminated plastic straws at all Divi Resorts since 2018 — a small change that makes a huge impact!

Did You Know? Scientists say switching away from straws can keep thousands of pounds of plastic out of the ocean every year, saving countless fish and turtles.

Along the Beach: Protecting Shorelines and Wildlife

Our teams and guests join forces for a huge annual beach cleanup on Palm Beach, Aruba and Little Bay Beach, St. Maarten, removing trash and plastics so sea turtles and critters have a safe shoreline to call home.

Did You Know? Every beach cleanup makes a visible difference — a single cleanup can remove hundreds of pounds of plastic waste from the sand, giving sea turtles and crabs a safer home.

Under the Sea: Restoring and Preserving Marine Life

On Bonaire, our partnership with the Reef Renewal Foundation is restoring life to damaged reefs — planting thousands of new corals that grow into thriving habitats for parrotfish, turtles, and other marine species. Every coral fragment adds to a healthier ocean.

Did You Know? Bonaire is a leader in the Reef Renewal movement — these projects have already planted tens of thousands of corals, helping bring life back to damaged reefs. Healthy coral reefs not only shelter colorful fish, they also act as natural storm barriers and can reduce coastal wave energy by up to 97%, protecting island communities.

This summer, Divi Flamingo Beach Resort hosted SeaSmart, a nonprofit inspiring the next generation of ocean advocates through marine biology education and SCUBA adventures.

In St. Maarten, the new underwater sculpture park at Divi Little Bay is twofold: statues commemorate local legends and are made of environmentally friendly materials that provide necessary sanctuaries for juvenile fish and encourage the settlement of corals!
